Tan-Tan is located in the western region of Morocco close to the Atlantic coast. This town with a population of approximately 10,000 inhabitants is a dull desert town with a humdrum existence.
Owing to its proximity to the coast, Tan-Tan has a slightly better climate than those towns located in the desert interiors. The effect of the ocean keeps the summer moderate. Winters are mild, but wet.
Largely a market town, Tan-Tan lies sandwiched between the coast and the Middle Atlas mountain range. The beach and the Port of Tan-Tan are just 25 miles away from the city itself.
The discovery of the Venus of Tan-Tan, a few years ago, pushed this unknown little town into the limelight. Between 300,000 to 500,000 years old, this 6-cm long figurine is believed to be one of the oldest replication of the human form.
