The Tan-Tan Mountains are a huge attraction for visitors to Morocco owing to their strange shape. Unlike most mountains, these are completely flat topped. For the best view of the mountains, hike up to the top. The climb may be a little strenuous but the calm and serenity that greets you at the top is worth it.
The Tan-Tan Moussem, a camel festival which is held annually in July. During this time, this sleepy town metamorphoses into a vibrant and lively place with tribes from all neighbouring areas flocking here. Folk dances and other performances take over the streets and as per rituals the she-camels are slaughtered.
The town of Goulimime, popularly known as the Gateway to the Sahara, is in the vicinity. It is a well-planned beautiful city; the old town, wide open squares and the weekly camel markets and bazaars make for an interesting visit.
