Tangier Casbah
Rating:

The Tangier Casbah is a square which faces the former palace of the Sultan which has now been converted into a museum.
The Casbah was one of the old attractions of Tangier but has become isolated and lost its previous charm. It is built on the highest point of the city and is encircled by the walls of the Medina. The gate of the Casbah leads to the Dar el. Makhzem, built in the 17th century, which was the palace of the former Sultan.
Inside the palace is a marble courtyard and beautifully carved wooden ceilings. There is a museum which displays Moroccan art and archaeology. The Casbah offers wonderful views of Spain and the Straits of Gibraltar.
The walk to the Casbah is steep but the views are amazing and worth visiting. There are several winding alleys, arcades and hidden terraces in the residential quarter of the Casbah.
