Tourist Guide Tetouan

Tetouan is located in the extreme north of Morocco, just a few miles south of the Strait of Gibraltar. This town of approximately 320,500 inhabitants is the country’s most accessible port on the Mediterranean coast.

Tetouan enjoys a typically Mediterranean climate. Summers are hot and dry with the average temperature above 30°C. Winters are chilly and wet with the temperature often dropping to 10°C.

Tetouan was plagued with attacks by pirates for a number of centuries and destroyed several times. The Spanish took over the city in the early nineteenth century and left an indelible mark on it.

The Moors destroyed the city post the Spanish reign to restore its former appearance, but till date, the effects are visible on the streets of the city and the way of life of the people.
