Zagora, originally known as Tazagourt, is a fairly modern town, located in the valley of the Draa River in south-eastern Morocco.
The town, surrounded by several palm grooves on its borders, is flanked by the Jbel Sarhro peak to the north and the Jbel Bani peak to the south. The main peak is the Zagora Mountain, which gave the town its name.
The climatic conditions in the city are quite extreme, with hot days and chilly nights typical of the region. Average temperatures can range from as high as 40°C in the day to as low as 3°C at night.
There are an estimated 35,000 people living in Zagora. Although at first glance you get the impression of it being an administrative town of the government (because of its many buildings), it still attracts an influx of tourists every year.
