Introduction

Inhambane: Attractions and more...

The dhow contributes to a major part of Inhambane’s tourism value. There is an annual dhow race held every November, which attracts a huge crowd of locals and tourists. A very unique experience here is to take the quaint dhow ride from Inhambane Bay to Maxixe town.

The heritage of the Portuguese can be observed in the 200-year-old Cathedral of our Lady of Conception, which offers a great view of the town from the top. Tourists can also take a stop at the railway station, which has a collection of old steam trains.

If you’re in the mood to relax near the water, head to Praia da barra where you can relax under the shade of a mangrove tree or grab a ride on a local fisherman’s dhow. The Priada do tofo is another fascinating beach a little south of the Inhambane. The north of Inhambane bay hosts Linga Linga, a calm stretch of beach which attracts curious mermaid-like creatures called ‘dugongs’.
