Reviews Vilanculos
Vilanculos is a popular beach town in the southern Mozambique province of Inhambane. It is the main gateway to the Bazaruto Archipelago (a chain of enchanting small islands on the coast).
The average daytime temperature of the town is around 23°C–28°C, with the dry season extending from May to September; the nights are often chilly. Hurricanes are common in the month of February.
The population of Vilanculous is around 140,000; this bustling town attracts a considerable number of South African and international tourists. It is therefore no wonder that Vilanculous is popularly referred to as ‘Mozambique’s best kept secret’.
Unfortunately, severe flooding in March 2007 has rendered more than 90% of the population homeless. Most roads and bridges have been damaged and the region is at an increased risk of cholera.
