Vilanculos lives up to its name as a fabulous seaside town. Tourists who enjoy water adventures will love the sea-kayaking, wind-surfing, snorkelling and fishing activities. There is a Dive Centre which caters to all types of tourists’ underwater needs, from the beginner to a visiting professional. You could even can relax on Vilanculos’ world famous beaches and soak up the hot African sun, or take a traditional dhow boat ride to the Archipelago where you can spot whale sharks in the idyllic waters.
The town is close to the Zinave and Banhine National Parks, which house some of South Africa’s best wildlife. The Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary boasts of exotic bird and marine life, including manta rays, sharks and dolphins.
The Portuguese history of the town has left its mark on its cuisine, with a lot of Portuguese food being served at the restaurants. Fresh sea food is a must-try when in town.
