The period between May and November is the best time to visit the country as the rainfall and temperatures are low. February to March is the period of heavy rainfall and flooding, and the roads become dangerous.

Every year, on 7 April, Mozambicans celebrate Woman's Day and honour the gallant fighter Josina Machel, who died on 7 April 1970 in armed combat fighting Portuguese oppression. Victory Day or Dia da Vitória is celebrated on 7 September to commemorate the signing of the agreement to end the Mozambican War of Independence.
