Tsumeb is a city in northern Namibia. It is the capital of the Oshikoto region. It happens to be the closest town to the famous Etosha National Park. In fact, the city is often referred to as ‘The Gateway to the North’ of Namibia.
With a subtropical climate, Tsumeb experiences very hot summers and mild winters. The average temperature in the city ranges between 30°C and 15°C. During the summer rainfall months of October and March, there are occasional thunderstorms. The average rainfall received in the city is 555 mm per annum.
Tsumeb along with the entire region has an approximate population of 22,500; the city has about 16,000 inhabitants.
Founded in 1905, Tsumeb recently celebrated its 100th year of being in 2005. The German Colonial Power established the city.
