Musee de la Femme

At first glance, entering the Museè de la Femme in Dakar, you'll be seeing an impressive statue depicting a man and a woman breaking the chains of slavery plaguing the African continent for decades.  The museum is located on Goree Island a perfect destination for a day trip also!  In the nice colonial building, on two floors, the museum established in 1936 hosts collections of everyday objects, agricultural utensils, musical instruments and also many photographs showing the everyday life of women in the country.

The museum stands also as a celebration of African women that contributed in their lifetime and work to the emancipation such as the writer, novelist, Aminata Sow Fall.  There are many activities and projects accomplished and organized by the museum on a regular basis promoting alphabetization courses and also arts and crafts training and learning courses, traditional embroidery, batik making and more!  Specific projects are as well set for handicapped women; there's an undeniable and utmost important pedagigic purpose and aim in this institution with a very relevant sociological potential influencing  the continent.
