In Dakar, for a true taste of nature coming from all around Senegal, you can visit the Parc Forestier de Hahn; the direction of the park set themseleves as aims to preserve, restore and promote the park in a full environmental experience, 360°. You'll enjoy its recreational and leisure role as well, as the park is open to various sport activities... The Parc Forestier was created in 1903 and it started as a cultivated territory, rural and agricultural but soon became home of many species as for flora and for fauna. It's located around 6 km from Dakar's centre and to the present day it extends itself for 60 hectares of wild natural scene! The parc is home to more than 117 species it's really a great chance to have an insight on Senegal's fauna all at once!
The fauna especially is abundant for you to see with such a variety of animals, herbivores, carnivores, many reptiles, typical inhabitants of the desert, birds and monkeys. Many groups go there to do volunteering in different areas of the park,working together with the direction and the staff so to keep always the park in excellent condition for its inhabitants, and visitors to enjoy!
