Bloemfontein is the capital city of the Free State Province of South Africa and also one of the nation’s three capitals being the judicial capital.
Also known as City of roses due of abundance of rose plantation and of the annual rose festival that is held here. The meaning of the term Bloemfontein is flower spring or fountain of flowers.
The city was officially founded in the year 1846 as a fort by Henry Douglas Warden, a major in British Army and was occupied many people that included Cape Colony Trek Boers, Griqua and Basotho.
In the recent days the town is renowned for flowers but the city has also developed commercially with numerous buildings and railway line that was built in the year. Being a judicial capital the city is also an administrative centre with many private hospitals and educational centers
The place has a moderate climate and can be visited at any time of the year.
