The South African National Gallery is the national art gallery of South Africa.
The collection began in 1872 with the donation of Sir Thomas Butterworth's personal gallery.
Various other patrons have contributed over the years and the assemblage today consists largely of Dutch, French and Brittish works from the 17th to the 19th century.
This includes lithographs, etchings and some early 20th century British paintings.
