Cape Town is now riding high as after it has been re-energized since Democracy came into South Africa in 1994. It's now a bustin destination, a favourite! Of course for many a-reason: lovely and warm comfortable climate, gorgeous untouched beaches and also steep hills that offer unique sceneries of life below such as the breezy bay, or the busy street like Victoriana.
Cape Town is the most European of African cities, although it has had troubled history, it holds sites of great historical and moral interest and of course the city offers inspiring nature sites!
On a budget as with any other seasonal destination, Cape Town's several hotels offer fantastic walk-in and last-minute online rates from May to September (sometimes as low as R300 for a double room, and it's only a little more than the amount you'll spend for a backpacker's Hostel). Check out for good deals the City Lodge Hotels or Protea Hotels.
Although entrance fees to the main tourist attractions are reasonable, they quickly add up! You may well take also free alternatives such as setting a day aside to a have a fair good walk up Table Mountain (rather than using the cableway) and dig nature's experiences refreshing your eyes and spirit! Or enjoy a stroll along the fine Noordhoek Beach.
If you pop into a tourist office, check out the Cape Town City Pass which allows you free entrance to over 50 attractions, both in the city and in the Winelands. It's very popular transport wise to check out Hop-On Hop-Off Buses: for R100 you'll get unlimited use. Also there are many cheap day tours, such as adventure activities or township visits or wine tasting tours you can book in one of the many agencies along Long Street.
Tip for restaurants: many allow you to bring your own wine so you can save a small fortune! Be sure to check ahead when you call in for a reservation! And last but not least, Happy Hours, yes indeed, so many bars in Cape town, you cant help but have a good time!
