OR Tambo International Airport is situated near the city of Johannesburg and is Africa’s busiest airport serving both international and domestic travel to and from Africa.
The airport has undergone some name changes since 1994 and the current name was taken after the former president of ANC, Oliver Tambo. It is located at about 1700 meters above sea-level and the air is hot and thin.
The airport has six terminals which are separated into international, domestic and transit terminals. It also has two parallel runways, one of which is amongst the longest international runway in the world.
South African Airways Museum is situated within the airport premises.
Prime international and domestic airlines served by the airport include Delta Air Lines,
1 Time, Air Tanzania, British Airways, Interair South Africa, South Africa Airways and Zambian Airways.
Several cargo airlines are also operated by the airport. There is a large array of shops and restaurants within the passenger terminals.
A duty-free retail mall, a conference center, medical facilities, WiFi Internet connections are some of the other services offered by the airport.
