Johannesburg has an ample number of parks, reserves and gardens, making it a very nature friendly city.
The Bezuidenhout Park is a 100 year old farm with a miniature railway, children’s playground and a picnic area of its own. It houses many farm animals and this makes the park an educational experience for children.
The Johannesburg Botanical Garden hosts some of the rarest and finest varieties of plants in the world.
The Emmarentia Dam is a nice sight to visit, popular with broad-sailors, scuba divers and canoeing enthusiasts.
Johannesburg is famous for the Florence Bloom Bird Sanctuary, with many rare birds on view and unrestricted access, the sanctuary is a must to visit.
There is also the Harvey Wild Flower Reserve, offering beautiful views of Johannesburg and Magaliesberg.
The reserve is home to many colourful and exotic flower species. There are many other botanical gardens and reserves in Johannesburg for the tourist to explore and each one is worth a visit.
