There are a variety of African hotels at Malelane, like the luxurious Malelane Sun Lodge situated next to the Crocodile River, which boasts of a 9-hole golf course, restaurants and a car park. Most hotels have viewing decks, from which one can often see hippos, elephants, crocodiles, antelope and other wildlife. Accommodation is also in the form of semi-luxurious bungalows, caravans and camping grounds as well as chalets with open French windows facing the river.
Malelane, being very small in size geographically, offers a more intimate and private experience. The town is commonly called the ‘Ideal African escape’ among tourists. Fresh water fishing, morning drives to spot elusive animals and exotic birds add to the adventure in staying at Malelane.
The nearest shop is about 9 km from Malelane at Berg-en-Dal Rest camp, but that doesn’t deter restaurants like The Kingfisher to offer a la carte and buffet menus to guests.
