Port Sudan is the capital of the state of Red Sea in Sudan. The largest port in the country, it is home to 475,000 residents.
Port Sudan was founded by the British in 1905 and served as the transport hub for trade in the region.
Even today, most of the economy depends on the port and trade that centres around it.
The population is mainly Arab or Nubian Sudanese and includes the indigenous Beja, West Africans.
