The National Museum, which features great collections, especially the fossil
discoveries of Zinjanthropus, Nutcracker Man, and the terrible history of the
Zanzibar slave trade.
The Botanical Gardens, established by the Germans in 1906.
The Karibu Art Gallery, with a wide selection of jewellery, paintings and pottery.
Mnazi Mmoja Park, a wonderful green area near the centre, with the Uhuru Torch
Monument, built to celebrate the country’s independence in 1961.
Oyster Bay, a fantastic stretch of tropical coastline, is the city's nearest
beach.
The Village Museum, about 10 km (6mi) from the city’s heart, is certainly
worth a visit: it is a living breathing village of real dwellings from all parts
of Tanzania. Traditional dances are performed on the weekend.
