Nyama choma (barbecued meat) and ndayu (roasted young goat) are popular dishes. Ugali, stiff dough made of cassava flour, maize, millet or sorghum, and usually served with a sauce containing meat, fish, beans or vegetables, is a widely eaten dish. The coastal areas and the islands on the Zanzibar archipelago are famous for the traditional Swahili dishes, based on seafood. The national brew is Safari Lager and popular local liquor is a concoction called konyagi.
