Pemba, a pleasant port city in North Mozambique, lies in a peninsula on Pemba Bay, which is the third largest in the world. The city is not only renowned for its colonial Portuguese architecture but also acts as a gateway to the Quirimbas Archipelago (a chain of 32 breathtaking coral islands known for being one of the world’s best marine destinations).
The tropical climate of the city ensures that the water is warm throughout the year. Annual temperature ranges from an average of 22°C–32°C. The dry season lasts from May to November while the rains, accompanied by laden monsoon winds, arrive between December and April.
Pemba has a population of around 100,000 people, who mostly live in wooden huts enveloped by thick baobab trees which are the principal vegetation of the area.
