The old village was built on the slopes of the hills with houses carved into the mountains giving it the appearance of a huge anthill.
The village is dominated by the mosque; the only structure painted a stark white it stands out amidst the brown landscape. It is known as the Mosque of the Seven Sleepers and is a place shrouded in mystery and legend. In the graveyard, there are seven strangely large tombs the origins of which are unclear. The top of the minaret, albeit leaning slightly, is accessible.
Some of the houses are still used by the inhabitants of the new village to store grains. The ancient bakery and oil press are worth a visit. The cave houses built into the mountain slopes are constructed in such a way that the hard bits of the mountains act as floors and ceilings while the softer part has been dug out to create rooms. Each house has a courtyard; some still have adornments on the walls.
