Dougga is spread over a huge area of 65 ha. The Theatre is one of its best features—19 tiers with a capacity of 3,500 seats face the podium. It is in such good condition that it is used to stage concerts during the Dougga Festival held every summer. The impressive stone Capitol supported by four columns and the towering Lybico-Punic Mausoleum are the other important features.
The Licinian Baths with tunnels which were used by slaves servicing the baths have large windows facing out to the valley below. The other bathing area is the Southern Baths which have large portions of the mosaic floors and walls still intact.
The Temple of Saturn, probably Dougga’s most important religious centre, the Temple of Caleistis and the Temple of Minerva bear symbols of the Roman era. Most of the mosaics, inscribed stones and columns and other artefacts have been moved to the Bardo Museum in Tunis for better preservation.
