Tunisia hosts several events, some political, some religious and some cultural. All Islamic festivals are held according to the phases of the moon, the most important being, Ramadan, which extends for around one month and culminates with the festival of Eid al-Fitr.

July sees the re-enactment of Homer’s epic Odyssey, taking place in the Ulysses Festival in Djerba. In August, Guellala hosts the Guellala Pottery Festival. Also in August is the El Jem International Symphonic Festival. In September, Tabarka hosts the Neptune Trident Festival, a spear-fishing festival that is open to tourists.

In October, Carthage plays host to the Carthage October Music Fest. Every year in December, the city of Douz celebrates the desert life at the four-day International Festival of the Sahara.
