Gafsa’s medina is home to two ancient open-air Roman Pools, which are fed by a hot spring. Some of the stones used in the construction of the pool, still bear inscriptions from the time.
Adjoining the Roman Pools in Gafsa is a small museum displaying Roman mosaics. Also near-by is the Great Mosque and a large bustling Tuesday market.
The 13th century Gafsa Kasbah (fort) was built by the Hafsids on the foundations of a Byzantine fortress. Badly damaged during the Second World War, it has now been restored and is open to the public once again.
When in Gafsa visit the Dar Loungo, an exquisite 18th century Tunisian home. The house is arranged around an inner courtyard with several grand apartments to explore. The house has a beautiful terrace, which shows off a spectacular view of the city.
