Before travelling to Tunisia, it is advisable to get vaccinations against typhoid and hepatitis A. Travellers’ diarrhoea can be a problem, when travelling to the interiors; be careful when eating outside and to drink only bottled or purified water.

Medication may not be easily available in Tunisia, so be sure to carry insect repellents and antibiotics; all medicines should be carried in their original packaging along with their prescription. Also note, obtaining travel insurance is essential.

Tunisia is a relatively safe region; however, in recent years, it has borne the brunt of terrorist activities, with the most publicized attack being the car bomb in Djerba in 2002.  Tourists should be vigilant and stay away from political and religious discussions or rallies. It is recommended that travellers keep away from the Algerian boarder region. Also, avoid travelling alone in the southern desert regions.
