Ksar Ghilane: Attractions and more...
Ksar Ghilane is considered to be one of the most beautiful oases in the Great Sahara Desert. It stands out from the other oases as it bears some semblance to an authentic oasis as it would have been centuries ago.
A small pool stands in the centre of the oasis and is surrounded by palm trees. A hot sulphur spring flows into this pool which is accessible for swimming; a dip in this warm pool at night is a unique experience. A restaurant and stalls selling local handicrafts flank the pool area.
Stay in one of the several campsites in the oasis for a unique nomadic experience. While some are fitted with most modern comforts, there are more authentic but less comfortable ones as well. Some even offer authentic Bedouin cuisine.
The Ksar Fort is a couple of kilometres outside the oasis. Large parts of the fort have been eroded by the sand and some parts lie almost covered by the surrounding dunes.
