A Ribat literally means a ‘Hostel’ in traditional Arabic. The name was given because this town served as a refuge and hiding center for the military volunteers who chose to fight against Islam. Nowadays this town has developed as a major commercial centre, it exceeds in trade and it is also a centre for the isolated Muslim communities.
