Sidi Bou Said is a maze of cobbled lanes twisting past steeped white and blue houses towards the lighthouse at the top of the village. At the foot of the cliffs is the Port of Sidi Bou Said, a modern marina with shops, restaurants and hotels.
At the highest point of the village is the Zaouia (mausoleum) of Abu Said el Baji, the patron saint of the town. Every year in July the locals celebrate the Kharja, a religious festival in his honour.
Made famous by the visits of well known artists like Paul Klee, August Macke and Louis Moillet in 1914, Sidi Bou Said has earned the nickname of a town of artists. You’ll spot many of these talents hanging around at the town’s two most popular cafes—The Café des Nattes and the Café de Sidi Chabaane.
Climb up to the lighthouse of Sidi Bou Said and enjoy a spectacular view across the village rooftops, over the marina and the beaches and out to sea across the Gulf of Tunis to Cap Bon.
Visit Dar el Annabi, a typical exquisite wealthy Tunisian home. Also explore Ennejma Ezzahra, a grand Moorish villa once owned by Baron d’Erlanger.
