Hwange national park: Attractions and more...
Hwange National Park is home to over a hundred species of mammals (the highest diversity for any national park in the world) including Zimbabwe’s protected animals like gemsbok, brown hyena and the endangered wild dog. Tourists can go on excursions in open jeeps or on foot with professional walking guides.
Birdwatchers will be fascinated with the nearly 400 species of birds like the Kori Bustards and the Black-Breasted Snake Eagle.
For accommodation, there are three permanent camps. The Main Camp lies in the south and is the most easily accessible; the Robins Camp is quaint yet remote (guests will be interested in the fossilized forests at this camp). The Sinamatella Camp lies to the north, while the Deka Camp offers interesting viewing hides called Big Toms and Little Toms.
Don’t forget to visit the Museum which showcases archaeological finds and information on the natural heritage of the land.
