Sitrah: Attractions and more...
The old-world central village of the island, Wadiyan, is a typical Arabian setup with a local market, a post office and a police station.
One of the main structures worth visiting is the $25-million Sitra Mall, which is located next to the sea and offers a wonderful shopping experience for visitors. You can also visit the Yacht Club with its line of privately-owned boats, the dhow harbour which contains traditional Arabian fishing and cruise boats, a popular beach resort with its hotels and seaside restaurants, and also the untouched fishing villages located close to the shores of the island.
The date palm gardens are a wonderful place to relax and even pick some fresh dates for which the Middle East is famous for. For a taste of Arabian food, try a shawerma (chicken or meat cut from a hot rotating chunk served with pita bread and salad) or the filafel (vegetarian cutlets wrapped in a roll with French fries).
