Few points about Bahrain and Arabic Culture I learnt of after my 3 months in Manama...
The Souq, Arabic term for 'the market', is a definite must in Bahrain. It is located near the Bab-Al-Bahrain (Gate-of-Bahrain). The place offers everything one can wish for including gold.
Bahrain is known for its pearls as a lot of pearl diving is done in the area and beautiful pearls are bought ashore.
Arab culture requires suitable clothing for women and this has to be kept in mind as tolerance for many styles of western dress could be low. The weather is mild, becoming very hot during the summer.
All kinds of food is easily available and English is widely spoken even though Arabic is the official language.
When taking a taxi, it is advised to make sure that the taxi driver will charge as per the taxi meter, as many drivers will ask for a higher one off fare.
