Tourist Guide Thimphu
The region of Bhutan in the heart of the Himalaya opened its borders to the tourists only in 1974. Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan and is situated in the west of the country on the River Raidak at a height of 2000m.
The population is about 30.000 people, the real expansion was registered in the end of the 20th century.
In the past Thimphu has been for a long time the winter capital of Bhutan, in 1962 it became the permanent home of the government.
The most popular religion is Buddhism but there are also Hindus.
