Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque in the city centre is one of the most extraordinary mosques in the whole Southeast Asia as well as a symbol for the people in Islamic faith. Its architectural style mirrors the use of elegant materials, ias for example the notorious Italian marble, granite from Shanghai, English stained glass and chandeliers,etc. Tourists are kindly asked not to wear shoes when entering the mosque and dress according to a simple and conservative style.

Other important events are the Chinese New Year, celebrated by the Chinese Community,

from town, on Jalan Muara, is Tiong Hin, a popular shopping place for locals
offering a wide variety of grocery and fishing supplies,toys, etc. There are
also shops at the International Airport,where it is possible to get Duty Free
