Seria is located in the Belait District. The name Seria comes from a river located very near where oil was first discovered in the area in 1929. It was due to the official correspondence by the people who discovered oil in the river, which stated that it was found in Seria, and thus the name of the area became known as Seria. Seria has an estimated population of 2700 people according to censes of June 2007. Seria was gazetted as a municipal area in 1936.
Seria has a very hot, humid climate most of the year, with heavy rainfall in the monsoon season. Seria has an average temperature of 28 degree centigrade. The culture of Seria is heavily influenced by Hinduism and, more obviously, the Islam culture is also influenced by the demographics of the country. Two third of the population is Malay, and the remainder consists of Chinese and Indians.
