Situated on the Mekong River, Luang Prabang is a bustling city in Laos. It is the capital of the Luang Prabang Province and has a population of about 22,000 inhabitants. The city, previously known as Muang Sua, is a remarkable World Heritage Site.
The climate is prone to extremes with summers being long and hot while winters being short and cold. The temperatures are affected by the city being located at a high altitude. Maximum rainfall is received in August, the other months being relatively drier.
Luang Prabang’s history dates back to 698 A.D. when it was a tiny region. Gradually, the city developed and became the capital of the Luang Prabang Kingdom. Today, it has an active economy and is a beautiful tourist place with various art galleries and temples.
