Aydingkol Lake

This lake is the place to admire. It goes on to cover a region of around 9 sq. Km. Moreover, it measures around 25 miles between west and east; and around 5 miles between north and south. Having lain around 509 feet below ‘sea level’, the lake can still not be compared with Dead Sea; that lies at certain 283 feet below the sea level.

The above-mentioned lake has a moon-like shape. It had been named so by Uigur. The meaning of Aydingkol’ is ‘Moonlight Lake’. Its history can be traced to around 250 million years. Around 10, 000 years ago, it had been a ‘freshwater lake’. Moreover, it was around 1000 times bigger than present size of it. Its elevation thereafter got affected by natural forces; thereby making it land-locked. This led to the deposition of minerals. At present, this lake comprises of 3 parts: outer circle: alluvial plane, central part: pure white (containing salt), and inner portion: salt marsh.
