Beijing Nanyuan Airport is situated in Fengtai district, about fifteen-km south of downtown Beijing. It is mainly a military airfield with a terminal capacity to handle around 1.2 million passengers per year.
It serves as the main base of operations for China United Airlines. Air routes to Dalian, Wuxi, Chengdu, Honhot and Harbin are offered, amongst others.
The terminal building is not very spacious and the lounge capacity is only of about two-hundred people. Generally passengers are taken directly to the terminal by taxis or airport buses.
The airport also offers discounted tickets for relatively obscured places, so that it may be beneficial to adventurous travelers. Instant ticket purchases are available, but one cannot book discounted tickets in advance.
The airport is also a little lenient on the passenger arrival time. It is not necessary to arrive one hour prior to the scheduled flight.
Due to less number of passengers, the boarding procedure is not complex and can be completed quickly.
All Nippon Airways is giving a thought about starting scheduled-charter services for the Tokyo-Haneda route, for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
