Imperial Palace
The Imperial Palace or the Forbidden City is a must for any tourist when in Beijing. Known as the largest surviving palace complex in the world, it covers a total of 72 acres.
Built from 1406 to 1420, this historic building houses the Palace Museum and its artwork and artifacts collections.
For 500 years, it had served as the residence of emperors and their households.
In 1987, this monument was declared a World Heritage Site and was also listed by UNESCO as having the largest collection of preserved ancient wooden structures in the world.
