The famed Temple of Earth is located in Beijing. It is also known as Ditan Park. The temple was constructed in 1530 and originally used as a place of worship where the emperors would pray to the earth for national prosperity and favorable weather.
The temple features square altars and walls in accordance with the ancient Chinese concept of square Earth. The square altar represents the Earth whereas the round altar of the temple represents Heaven.
The site is visited by the locals as well as the tourists.
The temple also hosts a well known Temple Fair to celebrate the spring season, which is a popular event of the city.
