The Temple of Moon is an altar situated in Fuchengmen, Xicheng District precisely in western Beijing.
Built in 1530 during the Ming Dynasty purposely for ritual sacrifice to the Moon by the Emperor of China, this place is worth visiting. Used as a royal temple for the emperors of Ming and Qing Dynasties, worshipping the God of the Moon, it was also used for other gathering deities on Autumn Equinox Day.
The altar and the surrounding grounds are a public park and is also known as Yuetan Park .
In the past decades, bushes and fruit trees have been planted here and the park makes for a wonderful way to pass a quite afternoon away from the city.
