The colorful and magnificent temple of Tian Tan or also known as the temple of Heaven was the place where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties offered sacrifices to heaven and pray for good harvests. Constructed between 1406 and 1420 during the reign of Ming Emperor YongLe, the temple was renovated again during the Qing Emperor Qianlong reign. This historic building was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1998.
