People with respiratory problems could find their symptoms aggravated as the level of air pollution is high in the city. Be aware of getting cheated with counterfeit money while purchasing items from the local shops.

Avoid getting friendly with strangers, they will rob you of valuables as big cities such as Beijing and Shanghai is prone to such thefts. Pickpockets and common thefts aside, China is a safe place to visit.

Violence is rare, but, one must avoid venturing out on empty streets at night. It is recommended to report the theft or loss of passport or visas as soon as possible, to the embassy and police.

One is advised to be careful while moving in crowded areas such as bus and railway stations, airports and always keep an eye on luggage.

Avoid getting medical prescriptions from pharmacies which are unlicensed and do not deal with people offering traditional Chinese medicine as it may not be original.
