Chengde City lies in China 250 Kms towards the north-east of Beijing in Hebei Province. It is encircled by the Yunshan mountain range.
In 2004, the population of the city was 3.610 million.
The climate is cool in autumn, rainy in summer, dry in spring and cold in winter. The average yearly temperature is almost 9 degrees Celsius and the perfect time to visit this place is from April to October.
Chengde was called as Rehe in the past and was the summer residence of the Emperors of the Qing Dynasty.
Structures like the outer wall and a huge parkland that comprises of palaces, pagodas and lakes have been preserved. Ethnic minorities like Manchu and Mongol are found in large numbers. This city is regarded as an ideal venue to study Standard Mandarin.
