Mountain Resort
The Mountain Resort of Chengde, also called as Bishu Shanzhuang, was enlisted in the World Cultural Heritage Directory in 1994. It is located towards the north of Chengde and is spread over an area of 218 square miles. It consists of four parts called as the Mountain area, Plain area, Lake area and the Palace area. The Palace area has four main complexes – the Pine Soughing Valley, the East Palace, the Pine-Crane Hall and the Main Palace. The Lake area consists of 8 lakes. The Plain area is made up of a group of temples in the north, a grassland for horse riding in the west and a garden having numerous trees in the east. The Mountain area comprises of four valleys called as the Pine-cloud Valley, Pear Valley, Pine Valley and Filbert Valley.
Eight Outer Temples
Eight Outer Temples is a term used to refer to twelve temples situated near Gubeikou, which is a part of the Great Wall. These temples are located to the north-east of the Mountain Resort of Chengde. At present, tourists have access to six temples called as Puyou Temple. Anyuan Temple, Pule Temple, Xumi Fushouzhi Temple, Puning Temple and Putuo Zongchengzhi Temple. The murals, sculpture, inscriptions and architecture of these temples are significant towards the study of religion, culture, history and architectural art.
