Dunhuang is a city in an oasis in Jiuquan, Gansu Province in China. It is located in the common boundary of Xinjiang Province, Qinghai Province and Gansu Province.
In the ancient times, this city was called as “Sha Zhou” or beautiful desert oasis and was the hub of middle and eastern silk routes.
As this city is far away from the moist sea breezes, the climate is of arid continental type. In January, the average temperature is -9.3 degrees Celsius and in July soars to 24.7 degrees Celsius.
The meaning of Dunhuang is magnificent. It is identical to a cultural house and arts palace as there are ancient Chinese buildings, carvings and paintings.
