The main attraction of Kowloon City is the Kowloon Walled City Park from which the city derives its name. The Kowloon Walled City Park lies in the north of the city, originally a military station of the Qing Dynasty hundreds of years ago. Later, due to various historical events, it became a place that was governed by neither the British nor the Chinese.
The lack of proper governance led to high crime rate in the area. Thus, in 1987, the Hong Kong Government decided to replace the Walled City with a park. Hence, in 1993, the Walled City was demolished and the park was opened in 1995. The park is built in the Jiangnan Style of Qing Dynasty. Divided into eight parts, the park boasts of two cannons, five stone inscriptions and three wells.
Another site of tourist importance is the Sung Wong Toi Park, which features the famous relic of Sung Wong Toi. The stone boulder is supposed to be a memorial to the last two boy emperors of the Southern Song dynasty.
