Lijiang City is located in the province of Yunnan in China. It has been called the ‘Venice of the East’ for its waterways and bridges.
The climate is cool and humid all year-round. The average annual temperature is 16°C, with rainfall between July and September. Summer is the best time to visit.
A city with over 900 years of history, Lijiang has been home to the traditional Naxi peoples. Lijiang old town, a site displaying the architecture and culture of the Naxi ethnic group is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, owing to which Lijiang’s tourism has boomed. This city also has many structures from the times of the Ming Dynasty.
Since Lijiang was a port city, it was an important market place between Yunnan and Tibet on the silk route and tea route. With a population of 1,100,000, most locals are engaged in trade and tourism.
