The highlight of a visit to Lijiang is a walk through the old town, which reveals its simple, elegant, old houses with stone foundations, brick walls, sloping roofs and red doors. Adding to the charm of the narrow cobblestone streets is a network of canals.
You could visit the Wufeng (Five-phoenix) Tower, a three-storied structure of the Ming Dynasty. There is also the Wangu (Eternal) Tower, an example of wooden Dougong architecture.
Not only does Lijiang have stunning architecture but is also endowed with natural beauty. Not far from the city is the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain with its glaciers. Close by is the nature reserve, home to over 6,500 plant species, a paradise for eco-tourists.
For recreation, head to Yuquan Park, built around Yuquan Lake (also called Black Dragon Pool), around which there is the Han Temple and the Ming Tomb. Visit the beautiful Tiger Leaping Gorge, between the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and Haba Snow Mountain.
